23 Years of HANDS on TECHNOLOGY e.V. – A Reason to Celebrate
by Stefanie Sieber

On April 24, 2025, we celebrated the 23rd birthday of our association – a charming numerical coincidence and, more importantly, a wonderful opportunity to reflect on more than two decades of commitment to STEM education. Since our founding in 2002, we’ve been working to inspire children and young people with a passion for technology, robotics, and science.
By “we,” we mean a dedicated team of ten staff members, over 30 volunteer association members, and more than 1,300 volunteers who support our projects – like FIRST LEGO League – across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, helping us bring our mission to life.
So far, our educational programs have reached more than 169,000 young people. This has been made possible by a strong network of over 70 partner organizations and more than 900 schools who help deliver our programs directly to the next generation of young innovators.
At our anniversary, past and future came together: we looked back on our beginnings in 2002 and revisited the cherry tree we planted for our 10th anniversary – now a living symbol of roots, growth, and impact. At the same time, the 2025 FIRST LEGO League Finale in Siegen demonstrated the energy and enthusiasm that continue to drive our work – with new ideas, strong teams, and a growing community.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey – whether you’ve been with us for years or just recently joined.
