Supporting our community through the transformation

by Stefanie Sieber

With the Future Edition and the transition to LEGO League, our educational program is undergoing a major transformation. It is currently one of the central topics for our organization and our team and is affecting the FIRST LEGO League community worldwide. Our priority is to guide this transformation transparently in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and to bring our community along on this journey.

Around 70 groups are already working with the new Future Edition challenges. This gives teams and coaches their first hands-on experience and brings the new edition to life step by step. At the same time, we want to communicate openly: not all questions have been answered yet, and some aspects of the framework are still evolving. We therefore share updates based on the latest information available and incorporate practical experience and feedback into our next steps.

Dialogue with our community has been part of the transformation from the very beginning – from information calls in the spring and our workshop at didacta to the presentation at the Final. Right now, our focus is on gathering practical experience, addressing open questions, and supporting teams and coaches as they get started with the Future Edition.

To help us do this, we are running a survey until mid-September. We are also continuing our online sessions for coaches. The next session will take place on September 17 at 4 p.m. and will provide a concise update on the current status as well as an opportunity to ask questions about practical implementation. Save as Calender Event.

At the same time, we are preparing information and materials to make getting started as straightforward as possible. The “Change and Future” page brings together background information, current developments, and next steps. Our FAQ answer key questions about the educational program and the current offerings. For teams already getting started with Future Edition 8+, there is also a new Quick Start Guide. It provides step-by-step guidance on what matters at the beginning of the season and which topics will only become relevant later. All other season materials, videos, building instructions, and documents are available on the resources page.

There is also more to come for younger children: Future Edition 5+ launches in October. This adds another element to the new program structure and gives younger groups an age-appropriate way to get started with the Future Edition.

Our goal: to shape this transformation together with our community, incorporate practical experience, address open questions early on, and provide guidance for the next steps.

Most importantly: if you have questions or anything is unclear, please email or call us. We are always happy to talk to you directly. Especially at a time when many things are still evolving, reliable information and open dialogue are essential.
