Collaboration with the Primary Education Department at Leipzig University

by Stefanie Sieber

In the winter semester 2025/26, we supported a special seminar collaboration in the course “UNEARTHED – Robotics with LEGO SPIKE in Crafts Lessons”. 17 student teachers explored how robotics can be didactically integrated into primary school craft lessons in a meaningful way.

In the seminar, the students worked with LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential and materials from the FIRST LEGO League Explore program for the UNEARTHED season: www.uni-leipzig.de/newsdetail?tx_news_pi1%5Bnews_preview%5D=173539&cHash=d04afd8a1146371646c011b196bff47d.

We provided support with materials, community exchange, and a workshop led by Kristina and Susanne from our office. In two Leipzig primary school classes, the students implemented their concepts over three project days: the children built and programmed their own models on the topic of archaeology, reflected on their problem-solving approaches, and presented their results. Robotics was experienced as a creative, team-oriented, and interdisciplinary learning field. The outcomes were subsequently shared and discussed online in our community – a successful transfer between university, school, and extracurricular STEM education.
